The Best Cure for a Cold

Friday, December 14th, 2007

I’ve been under the weather these past few days. I’ve not been in the mood to even peek at my email until this evening, which is odd for me, especially considering reading my email in the mornings is like drinking a cup of coffee for most people – I simply cannot fully wake up and face the day until my email is read. That is, until I come down with a cold. Then, I shun reading from a screen and go for reading the old fashioned way.

So, for several hours a day, I’ve enjoyed being bundled up with a hot cup of tea and a good book. Well, actually two good books. Seems I’ve come under the spell of a certain high fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The series was introduced to me by an old friend over a year ago.

Though, until a few weeks ago, however, I hadn’t even cracked open a page of the first book in the series, called A Game of Thrones. But, since I recently had some time on my hands (being sick with laryngitis and all), I decided to dive in. And, I’ve barely come up for air! I’m done with the first book and am already 3/4 into the second book in the series, which is called A Clash of Kings.

Anyway, the combo of hot herbal tea and really good book is the best cure for the common cold that I’ve ever found. It almost makes me forget the sore throat and constant sneezing… almost. 😉

Who is on Stage?

Anyone else remember watching Animaniacs? I loved it! I can still recite the intro song and Pinky and the Brain’s song. Hmmm, maybe I shouldn’t have admitted that just now…

Anyway, I remember this specific routine between Slappy and her nephew Skippy, and of course, I found it on YouTube! It’s pretty much classic Animaniacs. Enjoy!

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS is both addicting & difficult to beat!

That is all. 😛

Less Really Is More

AT&T 8525In my ongoing effort to unclutter my life, I’ve decided to downgrade my cell phone. My current phone is an AT&T 8525. It is classified as a PDA/Smartphone and has way more bells and whistles than I could ever want or use. Both Kevin and I got one less than 6 months ago because we thought they could help us stay organized and consolidate several gadgets. Plus, they had a rebate on them and we pretty much got them for free.

In the end we found that they were bulky, heavy and did not help us manage our lives any better than before they came into it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool phone, but seriously? There will never be a time where I will need PowerPoint on my cell phone. That’s just a line that I hope never to cross. 8-o

Slvr L7 PinkSo, we’re both downgrading and for the first time ever I get to choose the phone I want regardless of whether or not it’s offered by our service provider. How? eBay! Yup, you really can find anything on eBay and they have a plethora of unlocked cell phones to choose from.

After careful researching and comparing several brands and models of cell phones, I chose to get a Motorola Slvr L7 in Pink. 😀 It’s half the size and half the weight of my current behemoth and won’t feel like a brick sitting in my purse. Plus, it’s pink! The only place I could find it was eBay, actually, because it’s been discontinued by Motorola, and it only came out less than a year ago! (That makes me feel old somehow… )

In the massive world of cell phones, it might not have all the bells and whistles (or PowerPoint!), but I realised that all I really want from a cell phone is for it to accept and place calls (via Bluetooth, if necessary) and take a decent photo, so I can occasionally moblog.

From an outsider’s viewpoint, it might not seem like a huge step towards uncluttering, but in my case, a smaller phone that does less really is freeing.
