Blog award from Katelin at prettysandyfeet.com

Blog award from Katelin at prettysandyfeet.com

Last week (or was it the week before that?), Gorgeous Footprints in the Sand blog owner, Katelin bestowed this blog award to me! Yay! Thank you, Katelin!

Seeing as this is my first blog award (shocking, right?), I’m going to pass it along to two bloggers whom I make sure and check up on daily. Also, these two women are so super cool that I wish I knew them in real life.

Here are the blogs I bestow this award upon:

  • Jessica Gottlieb – Mom, Jewish and opinionated. What more do you want out of a mommy blogger?
  • Where Are We Going? – Fellow blonde mommy blogger from Austin who is always full of sass.

Now, if only I could win a blog contest someday, my blogging life will be complete. 😉

Two Week Update

Monday, November 10th, 2008

I’ve been busy… oh, with all that normal stuff you do with a newborn: nursing, changing, bathing, but also with laughing, gazing, smelling (how do they smell so heavenly!?), holding, bopping, cuddling and, really, just enjoying our son with all my heart.

Tomorrow, Kevin goes back to work, so it will just be Binary Boy and I during the day. Thankfully, he is the best baby anyone could ever hope for. More often than not, he is very content. I do my best to read his cues and I think he and I are totally in sync now. I am feeding him “on-demand” and he’s already set a schedule of every 2-3 hours or so. He usually sleeps (I usually put him in a sling or hold him) between feedings, but sometimes, he’ll lay in my arms, awake, and I’ll read to him or we’ll just enjoy each others company.

Honestly, he is just the best. It’s as if he tries not to cry, and instead, he’ll make a face or other noises to signal what he needs. We are truly blessed that he chose us as parents.

I’ve been working on his birth story in bits and pieces, and it’s about halfway done. Generally, I have a horrible memory, so it’s important to me that I get it all written down. I hope to get it done within the next week or so.

Today, we went for our 2 week check-up at the birthing center. I am very happy to report that everything is perfect – with both him and I. He weighs in at a healthy 7 pounds, 13 ounces. That’s over a pound from what he dropped down to in the days after his birth (6 pounds, 10 ounces).

Personally, I still weigh 12 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight, but I keep telling myself that it’s only been 2 weeks! I’ve gotten the okay from the midwives to start exercising at 6 weeks – I’m looking forward to it.

So, in general, everything is going very well. I feel tired (though, who isn’t nowadays? New mom or not!), but I’m still on that “newborn high”, and each and everyday I feel more like a mom. 🙂

Meet Goldie 2.0

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Remember way back when I mentioned I got in a car accident and my car, Goldie, was totaled and went to Car Heaven?

Well, now she’s back, reincarnated as a 2008 Honda Civic! 😆 Meet Goldie 2.0:

Goldie 2.0 - 2008 Honda Civic

Goldie 2.0 - 2008 Honda Civic

Isn’t she pretty? I think so. She’s really the first car I’ve ever picked out and purchased on my own dime. The original Goldie (1996 Pontiac Sunfire) was generously given to me by my grandparents, who live in Florida. They even had her shipped out to me in California!

So, Goldie 2.0 is pretty much the original Goldie, but in a modern, upgraded package. They’re the same color, inside and out, and even have the same trim.

For the past month I’ve looked at just about every small car there is and just wasn’t happy with what I was finding (looks and safety-wise). But, then Tyler at Howdy Honda took me to see last years Honda Civics, all 2 of them. He first showed me the dark blue Civic with charcoal interior and tinted windows. Blech. Then he mentioned that there was another one, in gold with beige interior and no tinting on the windows. As soon as I saw Goldie 2.0, I knew my search was over.

Of course, we went for a test drive first and everything handled really well. I knew the safety and reliability record of Civics are time-tested. In addition, she is a certified “green” vehicle (apparently Honda has the greenest fleet of cars on the market) and gets 35 miles to the gallon! So, needless to say, I was soon signing on the dotted line.

Now, all we have to do is get the infant seat installed and we’re all set!

Weekend Summary

Monday, September 29th, 2008

The weekend went pretty fast for me, but we got a lot done on the home front and in Binary Boy’s nursery. 😀

Friday:
– Went for my 35th week (!) prenatal appointment at the birthing center. Binary Boy is still breech. Acupuncture was highly recommended. External version was recommended and can only be done through week 37. That gives him 2 weeks max. If I forgo the version and he doesn’t turn, it’s a cesarean for sure. 🙁
– Ate at Taco Bueno after getting stuck in traffic on the way home from the appointment and realizing we were starving. Sorta reminds me of Del Taco.
– Back at home, we watched a few shows and relaxed.
– I did more of my “breech baby exercises”.

Saturday:
– Washed all of Binary Boy’s nursery linens, ironed them and made-up his crib. Put diapers in diaper stacker. Folded the rest of his clothing and put away in drawers. Kev put together a small shelving unit for the nursery, too. His room is 95% finished now!
– Ate lunch in.
– Kev put together two storage/file units that matches our computer desks. We now have a place to put our stuff in the office.
– Did lots and lots of other ironing that was piling up.
– Did breech baby exercises.
– Made dinner and watched another show.

Sunday:
– Ran errands. Post office, Staples, lunch at Taco Cabana, Whole Foods. Then home.
– Finally watched Grey’s Anatomy premiere. Took a break at the half-way point to put away the clean dishes from the dish washer.
– Did more breech baby exercises.
– Took a warm bath and ate some sorbet in bath. This was actually recommended to me by the midwives. Seriously.. I wouldn’t be taking a bath if I didn’t have to. I hate baths.

A lot of time was spent at home this weekend, but we both got SO much done. And other than Binary Boy’s head being up near my ribs, I’ve been feeling great about everything. 🙂

How was your weekend?
