Blogathon 2006

July 30, 2006

I just visited the Blogathon website and was completely floored when I saw the totals for the event:

Blogathon 2006 Totals

285 bloggers decided to get together and blog for 24 hours to help make the world a better place. In the end, we came out of it with almost $100,000 to do just that! All thanks to our sponsors!!!

Hear that people? Thanks to YOU, our generous sponsors! You people fucking ROCK!

Imagine if in those 285 bloggers, another $159.51 was raised to make the total an even $100K? That would be poetic.

I got in a solid 7 hours of sleep and woke to Celeste meowing in my face while lightly batting me with her outstretched paw. One would have to be pretty much dead to sleep through that alarm clock, so even though I’d enjoy another hour or so, the cat has spoken. 😉

How is everyone feeling, today?

In the case that you aren’t nauseous as soon as you lay eyes on a keyboard, there are still Blogathon participants following the Shabbat schedule! I’m sure they would love an encouraging word or two as they still have several hours to go.

Confession aka The Last Post

July 30, 2006

Okay, so I think I should come clean about something. And seeing as I’ve been awake for 24 hours straight, I think it’s a perfect time to start revealing my secrets.

I am a Trekkie. There, I’ve said it. Expecting something more scandalous? Sorry to disappoint. Recently, in secret, I’ve been watching the movies, starting from "VYGR" onward. When I realised that Star Trek could never leave my life, I embraced my Trekkie-ness and watched the movies without abandon until the wee hours of the morning. I thought that I had outgrown it, but no, it was not to be that way.

It all started in high school, when I started watching reruns of the original series. I was hooked and over the next few years became such a fan girl that you could have plucked me right out of the movie "Trekkies". I went to conventions, I decorated using Star Trek memorabilia, I bought the action figures and organized them according to series and rank. Even my RPG character name is based on a Vulcan name I made for myself. For my 16 birthday, I requested that money be pooled so I could have this:

Starship Enterprise NCC-1701D

I still have it, too. Though, it’s now packed in its box, awaiting.. something, I don’t know.

Anyway, I’ve calmed down a whole lot since then, but the fact remains: "Once a Trekkie, always a Trekkie". And, for the first time since high school, I’m not embarrassed to admit my love of Star Trek. So, without further ado:

Binary Blonde

And, because I had fun futzing around in Photoshop so much, I made this seriously embarrassing bonus image for your amusement:

Star Trek

This is Binary Blonde signing off. G’night!
