5 Months and more…

I am such a proud mama today, because Binary Boy sat up on his own! He’s been able to sit for a while now, but he’d sorta slump slightly or fall over after a while, but today he used those strong back muscles of his and sat straight and tall and played for a half an hour on his own!

Other developments:

  • Eating solid foods at least once a day! So far he’s tried (and enjoyed!) rice cereal, banana, sweet potato and green pears.
  • Unfortunately, the eating solid foods has lead to… ahem, shall we say, some wind breaking. It was causing him some pain, too, at night. So for the past 3 nights, I’ve been giving him a dose of Little Tummy’s. It’s seemed to help him immensely with the gas pains.
  • The teething has gotten better because his dexerity has improved vastly over the past few weeks. So, whereas he would have trouble getting a teether into his mouth then, now he practically puts anything he can get his hands on in his mouth. 😆
  • Also, in regards to the teething, Children’s Tylenol has been a huge help with night time pain. If he’s having a really rough night, I’ll give him a dose so that he’s able to sleep.

I hate to give him unnecessary medicine, but if he can’t sleep because he’s in pain from one thing or another, I gotta give in and dose him. Thankfully, the teething and gas are only temporary ailments!

Also, since I’ve started pumping breast milk (I hadn’t started until a few weeks ago), he is able to take a bottle while we are out and about. Though, he won’t take it from me, Kevin has to feed him! I only pump once or twice a week (not one or two days, literally just one or two times during the course of a week). Anyway, just that factor has made it infinitely easier to go out for longer periods of time.

So, when my grandparents came to visit recently, we were able to go out to dinner both nights with them and visit the State Capitol building (which is here in Austin) without having to worry about finding a private spot to nurse.

Here’s a photo of me and Binary Boy (he’s all cozy in his Ergo Baby Carrier):

Anyway, it’s shocking how fast he’s growing and doing new stuff. It seems like every day he does something new and amazing! I totally  being his mom. 🙂

I just came across your blog – and I am excited to become a new follower! I have an almost-4 month old baby girl, and reading your entries sort of gets me “prepared” for what’s to come. Anyhow, Binary Boy is adorable, and I look forward to reading your future bloggings! 🙂

Look at that belly – haha! Soo cute! He looks very alert and engaged – that’s good.

He seems to be sitting up a little early – my 3 kids were around 6 months or so. That is a landmark for the little guy! A whole new world.

Maybe he’s a month or so away from having solids on a regular basis without ill effects – maybe that would explain the gas. Does he spit the solids out (or try to with his tongue) – that would indicate that his body isn’t ready to digest the solids quite yet. Listen to your son’s signals. Listen to your instincts.

    Enjoy every moment!

Hooray for updates! And the hair color looks really great on you. Will you change your blog name to Binary “Brunette”? ; )

Reading your entries remind me of Boy Pop (and myself!) at that time. I’m glad to know you are doing well. I’m getting nostalgic.

I am a first timer on your blog too. I love Austin Texas, I used to live in Dallas and it did nothing for me. You have the cutest son, he is going to look back on these posts one day 🙂

  9. He is getting cuter by the month. Seriously, seriously adorable.

  10. @belle – Haha! His cheeks seem to get a lot of comments (compliments?), after his eyes, which are a deep navy blue. And thanks!

@katelin – He is big.. and HEAVY. Oy! It’s why I’ve got the carrier. He’s too heavy for me to carry in my arms for too long, now. It’s either a hip or the carrier for me!

    @Dan Boyle – Thanks, me too. 🙂

@Joss – Welcome! It’s nice to have a new reader. I hope to see you stick around! Congrats on your little one, too!

@Cyndi – When we go out together, I always get comments from strangers on how alert and engaged he is. Amazing that you said the same thing from just looking at a photo! Yeah, he’s been consistently ahead of schedule by a few weeks. He’s a very determined and focused little boy!

Yes, I have been following my instincts about feeding solids. He started grabbing at my food around 5 months of age, so I started feeding him rice cereal every other day or so. Then, he seemed to get bored of it, so I tried banana, pear and sweet potato in that order, over the course of 3 weeks. He seemed to enjoy all of those. So, if he wasn’t ready (or isn’t), I have no idea what sign I need to look for. He lights up when I put him in his high chair and start fiddling with his bowl and spoons, so I am assuming that I’m reading his signals correctly and that he enjoys eating solids. You may be right, though, and maybe I just need to cut it back to every other day again. 🙂

@Mrs Pop – I know, right? Takes me long enough between entries now… 😉 Though, my excuse is that I’m enjoying spending every waking moment with my boy! Haha! Yeah, I wanted a bit of a change with my hair color. Thankfully, it’s not permanent and washes out over the course of a month or so. Though, I really like it and might tell my hair stylist to make it permanent next time! We’ll see! And if I do, I might just have to move domains. Heehee!

@Jenna – Thank you! I hear that often, and love hearing it every time, because I can totally see how that is SO true!

@GregR – Welcome! Glad you stopped by. I hope to see you around again! And thank you! Ya know, I never thought of it that way. I really only do these posts for me to remember, but, you’re right. It will be fun to sit down one day and show him these posts when he’s old enough to read them. 😀 Great idea!

@Rebecca (Ramblings by Reba) – Aww, thank you for saying so! I think so, too, but I’m biased. 😉
