Halfway Point!

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Today I reached my halfway point, 20 weeks or 5 months! I had my monthly appointment, as well, and everything looked “perfect” according the the midwife. 🙂

Speaking of 5 months being halfway… Has anyone really done that math on that? It’s not possible for 5 months to be half of 9 months. Really, a women is pregnant THROUGH 9 months, and on the due date, a women is hitting her 10th month or 40th week!

How come they don’t say 10 months? Hmmm!? It’s a conspiracy I tell ya! Heehee.

Though, in all honesty, I am seriously enjoying being pregnant and another month wouldn’t bother me at all. However, I am in my second trimester and it is called the “honeymoon” trimester, so hopefully I can say the same thing in two months or so. 😆

Oh, also, I’m happy to announce that I’ve gained 3.5 pounds since my last check-up. I am really relieved about that since I was worried for a while there that I wasn’t gaining enough weight.

I mean, seriously, you can’t go into labor and birth without some “reserves” or else you’ll tire out too fast. Also, as I plan to do it the “old fashioned” way, I don’t want to be tiring out and getting extra cranky because I’m underweight and hungry! I’m already going to be dealing with a number of other things, mainly the pain, because I’m not getting any help from any type of drug.

So, hopefully, I can keep it up and gain the recommended 1 pound per week, give or take in a given month. 🙂

Vacation (Back) in California

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

We’re going back to California next month for my baby shower! It’s settled and the tickets have been purchased – Kev and I are flying back for about a week in mid-July, as my sister (in-law, but she’s more like my sister!) and my best friend are throwing me a shower at my mother-in-law’s house!

I am so happy about visiting and getting to see everyone, and I am touched that they are throwing me a baby shower. Since we’re going to be there about a week, Kev and I (and possibly the rest of his family) are planning to go for a day trip to Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Park, where the world’s tallest trees are!

I’ve always wanted to go there, and we never got a chance to visit before we moved, so it’s as good a time as any. True, I won’t be able to do any of my normal hard-core hiking, but I can still enjoy the beauty of nature and take some of the easy trails. 🙂

Even though I am so excited to see everyone, I have to admit I am not at all happy about flying. It’s not that I’m scared of flying (quite the opposite!), it’s that I really, really didn’t want to have to fly while I am pregnant. I know it’s considered okay, if your doctor says your good to go, but I still have my own personal issues about flying while pregnant.

Either way, though, I know the only way to see our families is to fly (and that’s worth it!), so I’m just going to bring what I need to stay as comfortable as possible, get on and pray everything will be okay.

Everyone Was Correct

Friday, June 6th, 2008

If you were keeping track, yesterday was my ultrasound appointment to determine the sex of our baby, among other anatomy checks.

So, without further ado… It’s a Boy!!! Everything is going really well and our baby boy is healthy and happy. He received an “A+” on all the anatomy checks and we took home several ultrasound frames.

He’s apparently a few days ahead of schedule weight-wise*, and at 10 oz., is a little bigger than anticipated. I was SO happy to hear that because I’ve been having some trouble gaining the “correct” amount of weight, but, thankfully, it seems that is not affecting the baby! 🙂

Oh, and apparently, everyone in my entire family, on both sides, knew (one way or another) that I am pregnant with a boy, which is the reason for the title of this post. 😛

*The ultrasound machine can compute the weight of the baby with two measurements: the humerus in the arm and the femur in the leg.
