So, that really ginormous stack on the left? That’s my “In” box. And, you guessed it, that really teeny stack on right is my “Out” box.
The company I work for hired me as a long-term temp to go through that stack on the left, one by one, and make sure the person listed on each paper actually has an account listed in their database. It’s mind-numbingly boring.
The boring part isn’t the searching or sorting, really (though, that’s a big part of it, for sure). No, the worst part is that I don’t have access to the internet on my computer. I have access to their database, but not their internet proxy, so all I see when I open a browser is their internal website.
It’s torture. Seriously, how did people who worked when there was no internet get through the day and stay sane!?
On the bright side, at least I can listen to my iPod Nano while I work. It’s pretty much the only thing keeping me from falling asleep on the job! 😆 I’m finding out that there are some really great podcasts (and videocasts) available. I’m only subscribed to about twelve or so, but am hoping to find more to last me an entire day.
Do you listen to podcasts and/or videocasts? If you do and would like to recommend one for me, please leave a comment and let me know!
I like NPR’s “Wait, wait … don’t tell me!” podcast
You have nice fingernails in that iPod photo. You are clearly very healthy!
Do you listen to Kevin and Bean on KROQ? They have a podcast of their shows and it’s pretty entertaining.
Wowsers!!! I don’t envy you with that stack of paper. What I do envy is your orange peel — now that is cool!!!
I like listening to “Guided Meditation” by Kelly Howell.
I’ve always kind of wondered who and why someone would bother signing up to podcasts just to listen to someone talk about nothing but after reading this I kind of understand the point. And I bet if I search around a bit I might find something worth listening to.
IJK – Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve subscribe to it and will download my first episode tomorrow morning. 😀
KSigmund – Why thank you! I do make sure and take my vitamins, as you know. 😛
Katelin – Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve heard of them, but haven’t listend to their show before. I’ll subscribe to their podcast and try them out.
KatieFeldmom – Teehee! Why thank you. It took several oranges to get the hang of it, but it comes naturally now.
Simple Mindz – Ooo, that sounds interesting. I look that podcast up, too, and subscribe. Thanks for the recommendation!
Webmaster – Yup, now you know. 😉 With the mundane work that I do, I’d go insane without something to keep my mind busy and interested. Podcasts and videocasts certainly fill that void. There are so many good ones out there, and actually, most podcasts are just recordings of the shows you probably listen to already. I love listening to NPR & KCRW (local public radio) and they podcast all of their shows. It’s great!
Try the 90 Second Naturalist for animals, Annie Jennings PR (she has a podcasting pro series), and then my Ark Animal Answers pet podcast!
The BBC’s Ouch! Podcast is good juju. Also good juju is Beth Adam’s podcast. http://bethadam.org. Good Jewish podcasts are always enjoyable.
I wish I could listen to my iPod at work…but I work in a library. Humph.
As far as videocasts, I watch Ask a Ninja. He’s not always laugh-out-loud funny, but is funny enough. It’s kind of a silly kind of humor, but you might enjoy it.
GG – Oh, now those two podcasts sound like something I’d really enjoy. I love anything to do with animals, for sure. 🙂 Thanks for the recommendations!
Bobby – BBC rocks, so I’ll totally check this out. Haha! And how could I turn down a Jewish podcast? 😆 I love the recommendations – thank you!
Melissa – Aww, that’s a bummer! I listen with my head phones. In addition to keeping me focused and awake, it’s nice to drown out the office gossip, too. Ooo, ninja podcast – haha! I’ll have to check that out. Plus, anything funny is a bonus. 😉 Thank you for the recommendation!
