Faced with a laptop that was quickly becoming outdated, I had to make a choice between getting another Windows-based laptop or switching to Apple. It wasn’t a hard choice, actually. Even though I’ve used Windows-based computers my entire life, it was all the horror stories I’ve read about Windows Vista that steered me towards making the switch to Apple.
So, last weekend, my husband and I ordered two 13-inch white MacBooks, and they arrived today!
Pretty, isn’t it? So far, I have my email, Safari (web browser) and iChat set up. I still need to transfer my files from my old laptop and find a good program to edit my graphics with, as I’ve found that iPhoto just doesn’t meet my needs.
As of yet, I don’t plan to dual-boot on my MacBook, even though it’s possible to run Vista on it. However, I won’t rule out the possibility that I might have to at some point down the line, but it is something I hope to avoid.
For now, I am going stick with anything and everything Apple, and hopefully leave the frustrations of Windows in the past. On some level, I guess, switching to a Mac is just another part of the new “clutter-free, less stress” me. 🙂
Hi There,
You have been randomly tagged by me to do a meme! 😎
Oh how pretty! I’m envious 🙂 hehe
Welcome to my world! I jumped the Windows ship this past summer and have no intention of going back.
Check out this free Mac software – http://web.mac.com/simon_elliott/simon_elliott%40mac.com/Software.html.
Seashore is no Photoshop , but it’s not that bad for free software. (I broke down and got Photoshop for Mac though – whatever platform I’m using I have to have that software)
Macbooks are amazing! Mine is the best purchase I have ever made. I do need to upgrade to Leopard though!
What’s so great about MAC? A lot of people love them, but they never say why. I don’t have any problems with windows, that I know of.
Congratulations and welcome to the mac world! I love love love my mac book! For a photo program I would recomend adobe lightroom. It is wonderful and I use it for most of my editing needs, unless that one special photo needs some photoshopping! Hope you enjoy your new love!
Oh how fun! I’ve heard such great things about MacBooks, enjoy!
That is purdy! I sooo want a Mac. Maybe someday… 😀
Did you see the new ones that are out? They are amazing!
Meh… I have the Windows side and the Mac side on mine (Macbook, provided by my workplace, which I’ve definitely gotten used to though I am not a Mac person). I have never once used the Windows side. You don’t miss it as much as you think you will. Once I got used to the Mac I found I adapted very, very quickly.
Mine is the same one. 🙂
Its look pretty but I think they need little extra care. See I’ve seen some little dusty macbooks on the train. Not yellowed, more sort of grey and fingerprinted and stained and generally yeuch.
But I guess that would wipe off with a suitable cleaner.
I second the Lightroom suggestion, it’s a wonderful product.
Cardiogirl – Okay, I’ll check it out! 😀
Jenn – Thanks! I think it is pretty, too. Love the white, clean look.
Sara – Thanks for the welcome into the Mac world! Also, thanks for pointing me to Seashore. I tried it out, but find that I’m really missing Photoshop and will probably break down and get it.
Jamie – I am quickly finding that switching to a Mac is the best thing I’ve ever done. I love my Mac.
Natural Woman – That’s an excellent question and I think I will answer that in a post. Stay tuned!
Lauren – I will look into Adobe Lightroom – thank you for the suggestion. I’m really picky about my graphics editing program, and Adobe has never disappointed me, so I hope this meets my needs. 🙂
Katelin – Everything you’ve heard is true. It’s great!
Simple Mindz – MacBook Air is gorgeous and it really is the laptop of the future, available today. I think Apple does a great job of creating amazing products that you expect to see in the future and putting them out there for people to use today.
Sarah – I haven’t installed Windows on my Mac, and hope to never have to. After only a few hours of use, I found that I adapted to the Mac OS very quickly and now feel completely comfortable using it. It’s just so intuitive.
Andy – I have to admit, I am a little worried about scratches and dirt on my MacBook. I’m looking into several options to protect it, but haven’t found anything that I really love, yet. On that note, there are safe cleaners that can be found online and in the Apple store to keep the MacBook sparkling clean.
Shelly – Thanks! Will look into that program. 🙂
I am still using a windows PC but I am really jealous of you – that looks like a lovely Mac – I’ll need to talk my hubby into getting me one !
Used the 13″ Mackbook 1.8ghz for over a week and I concluded the “heat scare” is just that. Keyboard is a little slippery when new – my only beef. Great product.
