Kanji’s Long Lost Thai Twin

November 15, 2007

On our travels throughout Thailand we came across many pets. Friendly street dogs were quite literally everywhere. We spotted them along side the road, in the big cities we visited, in places so out of the way that a dog seemed odd in the scenery, and everywhere in-between. If I had taken a photo of every dog I spotted along our trip, it would have been hundreds upon hundreds. Thankfully, they all looked quite well fed, though most were dirty and constantly scratching. 😐 Often times, we saw an owned dog or two. They were easy to tell apart from the street dogs, as they wore collars and were very clean.

Also frequently spotted, though not nearly as often as dogs, were friendly street cats. Most of them lived inside temple walls (and there are literally thousands of temples in Thailand), where they were protected from harm or starvation by the Buddhist monks.

Oddly enough, there were very few owned felines. Much fewer than owned dogs. Though, the ones that had permanent homes stood out from the rest as they were clearly spoiled; some even wore collars. One, especially, caught both Kev’s and my attention – Kanji’s long lost Thai twin! We were so elated that we asked his guardian if we could snap some photos. She allowed us to, but giggled at us the entire time.

Here, I present to you a photo of our cat Kanji Sebastian. Take a good look:

Now, take a look at his Thai twin/lookalike:

Amazing, isn’t it? Kevin had a few photos of each of our cats on his camera, so we showed his owner a photo of Kanji to prove that we weren’t crazy tourists. She was awed, but still found us amusing. 😛

So, is it just me or are genetics completely kick-ass?

Kick Ass for sure!

That’s almost as weird as finding out your car keys unlocks your neighbors car as well 😎

K – Haha! I hope that’s hypothetical and that you haven’t been taking midnight joy rides with your neighbors car. 😉

Genetics are definitely kick ass for sure! My wife and I try to figure out what (non-visual) traits our daughters have from her and from me.

Here’s one of our Maine Coons:

David – Oh, that sounds like fun, actually! I’ve always loved science and genetics are especially interesting to me.

Your Maine Coons are gorgeous! They look like they are full bred. Our Kanji is basically a mixed breed, but his father was a Maine Coon, so Kanji is such a BIG cat!

Agent24 – Yes, I would have to agree with you. Not that I’m completely bias or anything. 😉
