I’m home. I am very tired physically, mentally and emotionally, so this will be brief. I am focusing on gathering my thoughts for tomorrow, because I have a lot to say.
The one thing I will say now is that animal rescue efforts are most certainly NOT over in New Orleans, not even close to being done. And the “little guys” are doing it all. HSUS and ASPCA – gone. They got their money from the outpouring after Katrina and left, leaving the smaller groups to finish the job.
You might not see it on the news or read it in the paper, but animal rescue is still going on and most of New Orleans, no matter what you might hear, is still totally destroyed with no signs of action towards “starting over”. The place is pure misery. Just utter misery as far as the eye can see.
People.. volunteers.. are desperately needed. We trapped at least a cat a day, and would have trapped many more if we just had the people to do it. Literally hundreds, possibly thousands of animals are still trying to survive in a dead city, with no garbage or rain water to depends on anymore. So, if you want to do something that will save innocent lives, as well as change your life forever, go there and volunteer. You won’t regret it.
