New Theme

Tada! It’s not flashy, but that’s why I really like it. I’m using 45 Degrees by Color Light Studio. I edited it by changing the overall width, colors and header to my liking, though. I might make some small tweaks still, but overall it’s how I want it to look.
I’d like to thank my mother for lending her artistic talents to create my new logo (she called it “Beauty and Brains”), the glasses-wearing, line drawing likeness of me up there. After whining to her that I was stuck and couldn’t come up with a logo, she crafted that for me, oh, in about a minute (literally) and sent it over IM several evenings ago.
She said it was just a draft, but I told her that it was perfect and not to worry about sending anything else. She was a little hesitant, but let me use it anyway! Aren’t moms just the bestest?

BlogHer is Everywhere!
10 July '08 by Binary Blonde, under Blogging.
While pretty much every blogger I know is going to be in San Francisco, CA at BlogHer, I will be in the Central Valley of California with my family (I try not to call them the “in-laws”, it just doesn’t fit our close dynamic). And on the second day of BlogHer, I will be enjoying my Baby Shower!
Someday, I would love to go to BlogHer. I commented on gorgeous footsteps in the sand that I would love to take Binary Boy to San Francisco when he gets old enough. Though, I don’t know if many mom’s take their children to the actual conference. Hmmm..
I guess I am getting a little ahead of myself, huh? I tend to do that when I am excited about something, even if it may be years away of actually happening!
Anyway, the great thing about blogging is I will be able to read all about the BlogHer conference even though I can’t be there in person. Here are a list of my regular reads that are attending:
- You are flawed if you are not free
- gorgeous footsteps in the sand
- Adventures in Babywearing
- Oh! How Lovely!
If I missed anyone (my brain hasn’t been up to full capacity lately) and you know I read your blog, let me know and I’ll add you! ![]()

No Blogathon This Year
09 July '08 by Binary Blonde, under Blogging.
For the past two years, I’ve participated in Blogathon. This year, however, the organizers are taking a break. To be honest, I am actually relieved, as I didn’t plan on participating this year.
The reason? Well, I’m sure it’s obvious, but it would probably be unhealthy to stay up for 24 hours while pregnant. I don’t know for sure and I haven’t asked my midwife, but staying awake for 24 hours straight while pregnant doesn’t sound beneficial in any way - to either me or the baby.
I’m not sure if I’ll participate in Blogathon next year, either, but I hope to. Binary Boy will be between 6-7 months old around that time next year, so I guess it all depends!
For those of you who were planning on participating in Blogathon, and want to do something in place of it, there is another event being planned by some former ‘thoners to begin at the end of this month (July) called Day of Blogs. Check it out!

A Few Things
08 July '08 by Binary Blonde, under Pregnancy, Rants.
A few things I used to take for granted before pregnancy:
- Tying my shoes. My bows on my tennies are sideways now when I tie them. Mental note: Must find a comfortable pair of slip-ons… and soon.
- Bending over to pick something up. At least not with my normal quick reflexes, nor bending at the waist with any finesse. It’s a deliberate, slow movement to pick something up from the floor now.
- Getting up from sitting the floor. I usually turn over on all fours and push up from there. Though, sometimes, if Kevin is there, I ask him for help. Either way, I can’t just stand up from sitting like I used to.
- Walking at my usual break-neck speed. Even though I exercise, I still get winded trying to keep up with Kevin at our “usual” walking speed. As for running? Yeah, that’s just not going to happen.
- My waistline. It’s slowly being taken over, week by week. I know it’s for the best, and I know it will return, but I still miss it.
- No bathroom breaks during movies. If a movie goes longer than an hour and a half, I can’t make it. I missed parts of both Iron Man and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Though, I made it through Wall-E (barely).
Also, this isn’t something I take for granted, but something I find amusing:
- The “stare”. Yup, I’m finally getting it. People stare at the belly, and then happen to look me in the eye. Not the other way around. Also, small children are seriously amused by my belly and last week at Lowes a very young boy kept mimicking me by rounding his arms in front of him and walking back and forth. It was adorable and he was giggling up a storm.
And, these.. just plain drive me batty:
- The hunger that strikes without warning. I’ve never really been a huge eater, and when it came to food, I was the one in control, not the other way around. This is no longer the case. Now, I will get ravenously, must-eat-something-NOW hungry all of the sudden and seemingly out of nowhere. Not too long ago, we were driving home and I almost started crying because I was suddenly so hungry and no food was around. I learned my lesson and keep snacks (nuts, fruit bars) in my purse at all times now. It really sucks.
- Getting asked the question, “How far along are you?” When I answer, I always get, “Oh… but, you look so small.” What the heck does that mean??? If I hear that one more time, I might just scream, because, seriously, Binary Boy has been consistently ahead of schedule on both weight and length! It’s weird, because no matter how far along I’ve been, I’ve always received the same response.

Go See WALL-E!
06 July '08 by Binary Blonde, under Movies & Music.
So, on Saturday, Kevin and I went to see the movie WALL-E. I totally loved it! All the good stuff you’ve been hearing about it? It’s all true. Every bit of it. Seriously, go see it.
An interesting tidbit Kevin brought up, which I had not realised until he mentioned it, is that the majority of the movie has very little dialogue because the main characters are robots. You’d never notice, though. It’s really well done.
Anyway, I won’t give away any spoilers, even though I really want to blog about it, but it’s so good on so many levels. Go see it!
Edit - Okay, two things to keep in mind:
- Stay and watch the ending credits. They are an important detail (at least they were to me!) and they continue the story line past the somewhat abrupt ending.
- The movie might not be what you expect, based on the previews and ads, but you will still really enjoy it! As will children over 7 (8 maybe?), I imagine.
