How True

“Moving”

That was us only a few weeks ago.
Also, if you hover over the original comic on xkcd.com, there’s usually another nugget of funny. This time, it was “We need a special holiday to honor the countless kind souls with unsecured networks called ‘linksys’.”
Agreed.

I Made the Switch
January 24, 2008 by Binary Blonde, under Geekiness.
Faced with a laptop that was quickly becoming outdated, I had to make a choice between getting another Windows-based laptop or switching to Apple. It wasn’t a hard choice, actually. Even though I’ve used Windows-based computers my entire life, it was all the horror stories I’ve read about Windows Vista that steered me towards making the switch to Apple.
So, last weekend, my husband and I ordered two 13-inch white MacBooks, and they arrived today!
Pretty, isn’t it? So far, I have my email, Safari (web browser) and iChat set up. I still need to transfer my files from my old laptop and find a good program to edit my graphics with, as I’ve found that iPhoto just doesn’t meet my needs.
As of yet, I don’t plan to dual-boot on my MacBook, even though it’s possible to run Vista on it. However, I won’t rule out the possibility that I might have to at some point down the line, but it is something I hope to avoid.
For now, I am going stick with anything and everything Apple, and hopefully leave the frustrations of Windows in the past. On some level, I guess, switching to a Mac is just another part of the new “clutter-free, less stress” me.

Wonderfully Soothing Whitespace
December 23, 2007 by Binary Blonde, under Geekiness, Site News.
So, as you can see, I’ve switched themes. This theme is called “Cutline“. I like this one better than the last one, as it is easier on the eyes and there’s lots of lovely, soothing whitespace. The coding is squeaky clean for a theme, too! The CSS is entirely too much fun to futz with and the actual PHP is nice and organized.
All the photos in the header are mine, taken at various places along my travels. They will probably change with my mood and/or season, but I’m really liking the beach/ocean visuals at the moment.
Also, if you comment regularly, you might have noticed that you have your own unique avatar next to your name. Those icons are from my newest Wordpress plugin, called “Wavatar“. The plugin assigns a totally unique avatar based on and tied to your email address you use to comment, but only if you don’t have a gravatar already. It’s a fun little plugin and, if you comment and don’t have a gravatar, I hope you like your specific “wavatar”!

The Best Cure for a Cold
December 14, 2007 by Binary Blonde, under Food & Health, Geekiness.
I’ve been under the weather these past few days. I’ve not been in the mood to even peek at my email until this evening, which is odd for me, especially considering reading my email in the mornings is like drinking a cup of coffee for most people - I simply cannot fully wake up and face the day until my email is read. That is, until I come down with a cold. Then, I shun reading from a screen and go for reading the old fashioned way.
So, for several hours a day, I’ve enjoyed being bundled up with a hot cup of tea and a good book. Well, actually two good books. Seems I’ve come under the spell of a certain high fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The series was introduced to me by an old friend over a year ago.
Though, until a few weeks ago, however, I hadn’t even cracked open a page of the first book in the series, called A Game of Thrones. But, since I recently had some time on my hands (being sick with laryngitis and all), I decided to dive in. And, I’ve barely come up for air! I’m done with the first book and am already 3/4 into the second book in the series, which is called A Clash of Kings
.
Anyway, the combo of hot herbal tea and really good book is the best cure for the common cold that I’ve ever found. It almost makes me forget the sore throat and constant sneezing… almost. ![]()
