BlogHer is Everywhere!
July 10, 2008 by Binary Blonde, under Blogging.
While pretty much every blogger I know is going to be in San Francisco, CA at BlogHer, I will be in the Central Valley of California with my family (I try not to call them the “in-laws”, it just doesn’t fit our close dynamic). And on the second day of BlogHer, I will be enjoying my Baby Shower!
Someday, I would love to go to BlogHer. I commented on gorgeous footsteps in the sand that I would love to take Binary Boy to San Francisco when he gets old enough. Though, I don’t know if many mom’s take their children to the actual conference. Hmmm..
I guess I am getting a little ahead of myself, huh? I tend to do that when I am excited about something, even if it may be years away of actually happening!
Anyway, the great thing about blogging is I will be able to read all about the BlogHer conference even though I can’t be there in person. Here are a list of my regular reads that are attending:
- You are flawed if you are not free
- gorgeous footsteps in the sand
- Adventures in Babywearing
- Oh! How Lovely!
If I missed anyone (my brain hasn’t been up to full capacity lately) and you know I read your blog, let me know and I’ll add you! ![]()

No Blogathon This Year
July 9, 2008 by Binary Blonde, under Blogging.
For the past two years, I’ve participated in Blogathon. This year, however, the organizers are taking a break. To be honest, I am actually relieved, as I didn’t plan on participating this year.
The reason? Well, I’m sure it’s obvious, but it would probably be unhealthy to stay up for 24 hours while pregnant. I don’t know for sure and I haven’t asked my midwife, but staying awake for 24 hours straight while pregnant doesn’t sound beneficial in any way - to either me or the baby.
I’m not sure if I’ll participate in Blogathon next year, either, but I hope to. Binary Boy will be between 6-7 months old around that time next year, so I guess it all depends!
For those of you who were planning on participating in Blogathon, and want to do something in place of it, there is another event being planned by some former ‘thoners to begin at the end of this month (July) called Day of Blogs. Check it out!

Guaranteed to Make You Smile
June 26, 2008 by Binary Blonde, under Blogging.
I had first heard about Matt several years ago. I thought he was done making videos, but I’m glad he’s not! I have to admit that not only did this video make me smile, it also made me tear up a bit. So inspirational and touching!
Also, and I would never claim to be a feminist, but I love his answer to the first question in his “Less Frequently Asked Questions” section, just below the regular FAQ’s. It made me lawlz.

Be Kind to Animals Week
May 7, 2008 by Binary Blonde, under Blogging.
May 4 to 10, 2008

The American Humane Association created Be Kind to Animals Week in 1915 to celebrate the unique bond between humans and animals.
How Can I Be Kind to Animals?
Here are some simple things you can do during Be Kind to Animals week and throughout the year to show kindness to animals:
- Speak out for animals. Get active in local animal welfare policies and legislation. Also, register with us to receive timely Action Alerts about issues affecting animals. You’ll be able to make a difference for animals with just the click of your mouse.
- Report animal abuse. While acts of violence against animals are tragic in their own right, they are also a red flag for other violent behavior, including domestic abuse and violent crime.
- Appreciate wildlife. Create an inviting space in your yard and garden for butterflies, hummingbirds and other creatures.
- Share kindness. Teach the people in your life, especially children, about the importance of being kind to animals.
- Make a donation to your local animal shelter. A donation can be your time, money, or needed items like pet food or laundry detergent. Call them first and see what they need.
- Adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue organization. Approximately 8 to 12 million animals enter our nation’s shelters every year, and more than half of these pets will have to be euthanized because of a lack of homes. Local shelters are the best place to find companion animals, even purebreds — one out of every four dogs in a shelter is a purebred.
- Help solve the tragedy of euthanasia of adoptable animals by not contributing to the problem. If you have pets, make sure they are spayed or neutered. Pets should be microchipped and should always wear a collar with an ID tag, so they can be reunited with you quickly if they are ever lost.
- Be a responsible pet guardian. Keep a collar with an ID tag on your pet, in case he or she gets lost, and take your pet to the veterinarian every year for vaccinations and a health check.
