Home, Sweet Home

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

We arrived home last night. Well, at least to the apartment-home, which is still in Austin and so feels like home.

I never imagined that home would be somewhere else than California, but I’ve never felt more at home in a place than I do here. I am so happy to know that we will be raising our child(ren?) in a city that we decided, on our own (with no outside influences), to live in. There’s just something freeing about that to me.

Even though I am so happy to be home, the trip to California was a lot of fun (at least for a few mishaps, which I will talk about later). The best part, no contest, was seeing our family. I only got to see my mom and best friend for the baby shower, but I am grateful I even saw them at all, considering they both had to travel a distance to get to where we were staying.

We did everything I wanted to do, too! We saw Batman: The Dark Knight (a masterpiece – go see it!), we went to Sequoia National Park (started out rough, but ended well – details later) and, of course, we had my baby shower (details and photos for another post!). We even threw in a game of miniature golf, which was a whole lot of fun!

As soon as I get unpacked and get the photos uploaded, I will set about posting the details of both the baby shower and visit to Sequoia National Park. I also plan to catch-up on everything going on with all of you, as I feel like I’ve missed so much already!

Update from California

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

I’m okay! I’ve been busy here and haven’t had a chance to get online until now. It’s been so nice to be able to spend time with my family and best friend. Everyone is getting ready for my baby shower right now, so the house is buzzing with activity.

The plane flight was uneventful, though completely uncomfortable and I am not really looking forward to the plane flight back home. I tried to stay well hydrated and think I did okay. I had several Braxton Hicks contractions, however, and that was a little unnerving, not to mention seriously uncomfortable.

Everyone here says that I “look small, but great”, and even though I still don’t know what exactly that means to people, I know it doesn’t mean anything bad. I guess I should just get used to hearing that, huh?

All I really care about is that our baby is growing and healthy and my fundal height is perfectly on schedule, according to my midwife during my most recent check-up, which was last Monday.

I’ll try and get any photos from my baby shower posted as soon as I get a chance. 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!

Leaving Tomorrow!

Airplane We’re flying out to California tomorrow in the early afternoon to spend a week with our family. w00t!

In addition to my baby shower on Saturday (yay!), the two other things we have planned is to see Batman: The Dark Knight and go see the big sequoia trees.

Even though I’m excited, I’m still nervous about flying while pregnant, but the anticipation of seeing our family for a week outshines the nervousness. Kevin asked exactly why I’m nervous about flying while pregnant and I guess I don’t really have a specific reason, only that I don’t want to hurt the baby in any way.

I know it’s an irrational fear, as even my midwife told me it’s totally fine to fly if you are having a healthy pregnancy. So, I’m trying to focus on the positive and push any worries out of my mind. I’ve never had any fear of flying, so having a freak-out now would be silly of me, right?

Two Weeks and Counting

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Calendar Only two more weeks until Kev and I fly back to California to visit with our friends and family! If you can’t tell, I’m excited.

We don’t have a day-by-day itinerary while we’re there, as we mostly plan to relax and unwind, but we do have a few things we want to do.

So far, there’s my baby shower on Saturday, a day trip to Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park (where all the huuuge redwood trees are) and going to see Batman: The Dark Knight as a family unit. Fun, fun, fun!

Personally, considering my energy supply is not what it used to be, I am fine with those being the only planned events for the week! 😆 I want this to be a relaxing vacation, not a trip I come home feeling exhausted from.
