That Cold White Stuff

December 10, 2008

Surprise! Look what we woke up to this morning…

Snow at our house in Austin, Texas

Yup, that’s snow. In central Texas. I didn’t move to Texas to wake up to snow! It’s not that I’m against snow, in theory. The concept of snow is nice and all, and it is very pretty to look at, but I am not a fan of it when I have to deal with it being outside my door step.

See, where there’s snow, there’s cold. And cold and I have been mortal enemies for my entire life. We’re not about to kiss and make up now, especially now that cold has wedged it’s way under the door and into the house and makes me wear a fleece hat all day. Grrr. It almost makes me miss being pregnant in the 100 degree weather. Almost.

On the positive side, I got to dress Binary Boy in his adorable fleece footie outfit. So, I guess the cold isn’t all that bad. 😉

Pre-shus baby!!!

Don’t worry, the cold doesn’t last long, and then we’ll have 60+ degree days again… Winter here is on and off. We typically have a winter weather “event” every three or so years. We are due for one this season, actually. The weather folks will forecast it way in advance to give you time to stock up on supplies, then every company in town will shut down to avoid the 1000+ rush hour accidents due to ice on the road. People will still go out, though, and there will still be 1000+ traffic accidents in a 3 hour timeframe.

Welcome to Central Texas!

P.S. Thank you for the award!!!

I’m with you – cold and snow and ice are not my friends and unfortunately, I live in Massachusetts! I would be quite happy living in a state that had a dusting of snow for December. I’m more of a sunshine, blue sky, bring on the the heat kind of gal.

Your baby is precious! Looks like he is in shavasana (for all you yoga folks!) – how relaxing… Enjoy these days of motherhood.

That is what it looks like in Indiana. How sad is that! I hope you and the binary family stay warm.

Awww, but it sure does look beautiful! You always want what you don’t have…here (South Florida) it’s in the 80s. I wish it would snow just a little to make it feel like Christmas.

I grew up and lived in Austin for my first 40 years. Then my wife convinced me we would have a better life in north Dallas, aka McKinney. It’s colder here. I’d estimate about 5 degrees on average. And is life better? Only if I choose to make it so.
Enjoy your little bundle more than you despise the cold. A more efficient and profitable expenditure of personal energy.

So did it last? Did you have a white Christmas?

Merry Christmas to you and yours.
