We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Bed

We have three wonderful cats, and while they are nice to each other most of the time, they do have their “sibling moments.” Lately, they’ve been fighting… over the only cat bed in the house. It’s the weirdest thing.

See, I purchased the cat bed (it’s purple and donut-shaped) for Celeste back in 2002 when I adopted her. Later, after I adopted Kanji and Noni, they never seemed interested in it, so I figured there was some sort of unspoken rule that it was Celeste’s bed.

For some odd reason, within the last few days, they’ve been punking each other by sleeping in it and swatting anyone else that comes near. Poor Celeste has been left wondering what the heck happened to her bed, so I figured it was time to get beds for all three of them.

Tonight, Kevin and I went to PetSmart and I picked out three matching beds. They looked cute and super soft, so I figured they’d love them. Though, I had a nagging feeling that they might be too small for our large cats (not fat, just tall and long!). Our plan was to put only one of them down and see if they fit.

Celeste was the first to try it out and I’m not sure it’s the best fit. What do you think?

Yeah.. I’m thinking it’s a good thing we kept the receipt!

  1. Your cat is gorgeous! maybe you could buy another bed and join the two together.

    That’s pretty cute! 🙂

  3. simple Mindz says:

LOL….Yup. gonna need a bigger one.

  4. GG says:

🙂 Yep you need a bigger one. They also have new versions with an insert able heat source…because you have multiple cats, you should have choices for them to cut down on the spats–or get one of those bigger ones that they can all cuddle together in–assuming they do.

    That is a funny pic!!
My question though, is did they still fight over the beds? I have 2 dogs, and it never fails that even though the beds are the same, they both want the same one. They are so much like kids with toys!

  6. Cute! Our cats are “big boned” as well.

Then again, there is no social stigma for feline obesity.

  7. lol, how cute is that picture! okay i think she’s a little big for it. buy them a twin size mattress they have to share.

You know, she might even be fluffier than mine!

  9. Wow! That is one big cat! (Or else that is one small bed.)

  10. Solomon Broad – Thanks, I’ll let her know you said so! We are planning on returning the smaller beds and getting larger ones.

    Rebecca – Thanks! I totally agree. 😉

simple Mindz – Hehe. Yeah, it’s kinda ridiculous-looking, huh?

GG – Yeah, we’re thinking of getting one or two different kinds of beds now. I had considered a heat source, but since we live in a warmer climate, I don’t think they’d like a heating pad in there. If we ever move somewhere colder, I’ll definiately consider that!

Tracy – Thankfully, they don’t really get into “fights”, but every once in a blue moon they will smack each other (without claws) when one of them wants a bed that the other one is in. Most of the time they share all their (tons of) toys really well.

Most Prepossessing – True! Our cats really aren’t overweight, but, like a lot of humans (myself included), they could stand to lose a few pounds.

Natural Woman – Hahaha! I’m sure they would love having their own bed. They already take up half our Queen size bed at night – sheesh.

Sarah – Celeste is the furriest, fluffiest cat I’ve ever known. No exaggeration. Literally everyone who sees her in person gasps at how fluffy and “pretty” she is. Makes me proud! 😉

Born Again Bird Watcher – Teehee! It’s a little bit of both! That bed was so small and Celeste is a very long and tall cat.
