Last night I thought I was going blind. I was pacing while wringing my hands and wondering when the bright, flashing zigzag lines would completely take over my vision. It started with a pain in which I thought was just stuffed sinuses and moved to the freakish, flashing zigzag lines that were worming their way into my eyeballs. 😮
The pain felt like my head was in a vice, so of course I freaked when the zigzags started. Then the intense nausea hit. I had no idea what was happening to me. I was on the verge of tears, almost throwing up and could barely see.
Of course, I did when anyone else would do at 2:00am in the morning faced with this: I woke up my husband and told him I was afraid I was going blind. He told me to take some Excedrin. Ahh, good idea! I popped the pills in my mouth, hoping for a miracle. I was still in immense pain and couldn’t see anything but flashing lights in my left eye. With nothing left to do, I started brushing my teeth so I could try and sleep.
As I looked in the mirror, I noticed my left eye was pretty much lame. As in, it was drooping and I could barely control which way the iris faced. Shit! I took a few deep breaths and let myself know there really wasn’t anything I could do until morning, so I went to bed. Surprisingly, I felt exhausted enough to fall asleep.
My vision is mostly better today, just some minor vision weirdness, so I didn’t contact my doctor. Sure, the massive, evil headache is still here and I feel as if I’ve had my life energy sucked dry, but eh.. what woman hasn’t dealt with some pain before?
I still wanted to know what the hell was going on with me, so I did some research. I had (and am having) a classic migraine. Yay. They effect about 6 out of every 100 people and usually show up in women. Guess I’m one of those lucky 6 women. :-I
