Whatcha up to?

May 5, 2006

Several people have asked what I’ve been up to lately, so I think it’s about time for another personal update.Life has been a little crazy lately. The flooring was shipped last week and is in a huge mound in the guest room/my office. We have a few more supplies to purchase before we really dig in and start laying the boards down. I’m confident in our enthusiasm, but I think we’re going to take one of those classes offered at Lowe’s before we start tearing up carpet… You know, just in case there’s something we missed. 😉

Audrey’s Wedding Bridesmaid DressesMy best friend is getting married in July and I am the Matron of Honor. I didn’t have time to plan anything for her wedding while I was in New Orleans, so I’m making up for lost time now. Two weeks ago, we worked all day (literally) on cutting invitation paper, cutting fabric, gluing, more cutting, oh hell, we did so much it’s hard to remember it all. It was perhaps one of the most productive days I’ve ever had outside of a job. That same day we received our dresses through Fed Ex, so now all I need to do is purchase some dyeable shoes. I’m also planning her bachelorette party, which is to take place in Northern California.

I’m not taking any classes this summer, because, well.. they’re not offering any classes I need. I might work with the greyhounds for some work experience, but that’s about it.

Best Friends Animal Society Las Vegas Brainstorming WeekendMy trip to Las Vegas last week was more work than play. A few select people were chosen to spearhead a process to have a disaster plan for animals ready and waiting. Most of the weekend was spent planning the initial stages of a post-disaster response and what first responders need in order to best do their job. The attendees were separated into groups and I was placed into Animal Care. During our meetings and planning sessions, lots of massive Post-It notes were written upon and many flow-charts were made. I took them all home to type/draw them up and make them legible. All the groups are now working together online to create the first draft of their section for the handbook. It’s due in about two weeks. This has been a priority of my time lately.

Spring cleaning is in full swing at our place and I have about 20 bags of stuff to donate. Yikes. How in the hell does so much stuff accumulate below the radar? I had no idea I had so much crap I don’t need and/or don’t use. It’s stunning really. Then, there’s several pieces of furniture that need to be donated somewhere. That’ll have to wait until we get back from our trip.

Speaking of our trip, Kevin and I leave tomorrow for a week-long trip up the coast of California. We’re making several stops, but lodging in Carmel-by-the-Sea and San Luis Obispo. We’ll be hiking, mostly. I am looking forward to getting back in touch with nature, as I feel disjointed when I’m stuck inside or in the city too long. I hope to return renewed and refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the year with gusto. I thank the powers that be for the break. It will be our first vacation in over 2 years and both Kevin and I need it. Several coffee shops along the route offer free wifi, so I will blog the trip and include my fave photo from the day.
